Review on the Impact of the Iran–Israel War on Farmers’ Agricultural Input Supply in Ethiopia

AbstractAgricultural production in Ethiopia depends heavily on imported inputs such as fertilizer, fuel, and agrochemicals. Global geopolitical conflicts disrupt international markets, affecting agricultural supply chains. This systematic review synthesizes existing empirical evidence on how geopolitical conflicts influence agricultural input supply in Ethiopia. Literature was collected from major academic databases following PRISMA guidelines. A total of 42 studies published between 2010 and 2026 were reviewed. Findings indicate that conflicts contribute to increased fertilizer prices, transportation disruptions, and reduced accessibility of agricultural inputs for smallholder farmers. The review highlights the need for diversified sourcing strategies and domestic input production to improve resilience. The study provides policy recommendations for strengthening Ethiopia’s agricultural input system.
