The history reveals that women are the deep roots for development of any
country. A skilled female labor force, empowered female workforce and
enlightened women are the strength of a country. In India, women population is
48.4% nearly half of the entire population but still not as developed as the other
half population of men. There are many complex reasons behind this statistics as
women are bereft of education, face gender biasness, have less literacy ratio and
this doesn’t allow them to have equal access to the resources and opportunities in
the country. In the awakening of globalization women entrepreneurship has found
its way out but they face many financial and social barriers. In this phase the
launching of Skill India Mission is not a program but a movement in itself that
lets women chalk their destiny by availing the earning opportunities. The aim of
this research is to scrutinize skill development from gender perspective and to
find out the effect of skill development and vocational training on women
empowerment and suggest measures for reducing gender inequality by effectively
implementing skill training program for women’s welfare.
