Dr. Ravinder Rena is an internationally respected economist, academic leader, and public intellectual whose career spans more than three decades of teaching, research, institutional leadership, and global engagement. With over 33 years of academic experience across Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, and Europe, he has built a distinguished reputation as a scholar of development economics, higher education, and global economic policy, while actively shaping institutional growth and intellectual discourse across the Continents.
Professor Rena currently serves as Professor of Economics in the Faculty of Management Sciences at Durban University of Technology, Durban South Africa. In this role, he contributes to postgraduate supervision, research development, curriculum innovation, and strategic academic leadership. His commitment to strengthening academic standards and mentoring emerging scholars has made him a respected figure within the institution and beyond.
He also holds several international academic appointments that reflect his global engagement. He serves as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Entrepreneurship and Business Management at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. In Europe and Eurasia, he is a Visiting Professor at the Academy of Engineering and Management at RUDN University and at the Department of World Economy, Faculty of Economics, Saint Petersburg State University. Earlier in his career, he was Head of Economics in the Department of Business Studies at Papua New Guinea University of Technology and served as Professor at Eritrea Institute of Technology.

He also obtained his M.A., B.Ed., and M.Phil. degrees from the same institution. Earlier, he completed his B.A. and LL.B. degrees at Kakatiya University. He serves as Editor in-Chief of the Indian Journal of Finance and Economics, the Indian Journal of Economics and Financial Issues, and the Indo-Asian Journal of Finance and Accounting. He is also the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Education Economics and Development (IJEED), published by Inderscience, UK. In addition, he serves as Chief Editor of The Economics and Finance Letters and has held associate editorial roles in respected international journals, including The Bottom Line (Emerald, UK) and the African Journal of Science, Technology, Innovation and Development (Taylor & Francis, UK).
